Before Insulin was discovered Type 1 diabetes women were at high risk during pregnancy. Type1 diabetes and pregnancy is a matter of concern for women who want to get pregnant. It is advisable to consult your doctor before planning for pregnancy. You need to keep your sugar level under control and to treat any complication related to disease. Studies indicate that negligence in planning of pregnancy and initial health care results in defects in inborn baby, can also lead to still birth. Some tips to be followed for Type1 diabetes and pregnancy: You need to be aware of the fact that diabetes affects kidneys and eyes and so you need to go for proper kidney examination prior to getting pregnant and regular eye check up. Urine test is also very important as high protein level in urine will lead to high blood pressure and that will affect the pregnancy. Gestational Diabetes :: Definition and its causes – Women Health

We all know that human body is made of numerous cells and it requires fuel to remain active. The hormone called insulin allows glucose to enter the cell and provide fuel. Diabetes may be termed as the condition of the body when enough insulin is not produced or the insulin that is produced can not function properly. When glucose produced can not enter the cell, is deposited in the blood causing diabetes. Diabetes during pregnancy period of women is termed as gestational diabetes. It is defined as a condition in pregnant women when blood sugar level is elevated with all diabetic symptoms. In this case the woman is not previously being diagnosed with diabetes. But all those diabetic symptoms disappear after the baby is born. There is an increasing risk of the mother getting diabetes in future if she is obese. There is also possibility of baby to be obese.
