Periodontal disease diabetes is one of the leading causes of teeth loss among diabetic adults.

Diabetes and periodontal disease are inter related Factors.

1. Diabetes slows the blood circulation and hence the gums become more prone to infections.

2.  According to the studies diabetic people who have a controlled sugar level have a low chance to develop this disease as compared to others.

3. High amount of glucose in saliva can also lead to periodontal disease.

4. Another factor that relates diabetes and periodontal disease is that diabetes reduces the resistance power against infection and hence the gums become infected fast.

Two types of periodontal disease are:

Gingivitis:

Gingivitis is caused due to poor brushing and flossing habits. The gums become swollen and may bleed when brushing your teeth. It can be taken care by following a daily proper brushing and flossing of teeth.

Periodontitis:

Periodontitis occurs on the tissue which holds the teeth in place. The infection leads to loss of the bone that holds the tooth in its socket and might lead to tooth loss.

However you can still avoid Diabetes Periodontal disease by having a good control of your sugar level, by following a good oral hygiene and regular check up with your dentist, eating a healthy balanced diabetic diet and by quitting smoking. For diabetic patients healing of oral surgery might take some time so you need to take some good medical care.
