Ideal time for testing diabetes in pregnancy is at 26-28 weeks, but same is advisable as early as possible for high risk pregnant women who are prone to diabetes because of  genetic susceptibility status, obesity, previous history, other medical disorders like hypertension metabolic syndromes, gastric surgeries.

HbA1c is the test which helps to know 3 months past diabetic status.
Insulin injections are advisable.
